A friend shared this quote with me, I had not seen before, but I liked it and wanted to share.
Fate whispers to the warrior, “You cannot withstand the storm.” The warrior whispers back, “I am the Storm.”
Life presents challenges every week, every day, and at times, every hour it seems; how we receive those challenges is important for our survival.
Do you see yourself as the Storm?
What do you feel defines a storm? Is it the loud thunder, an overwhelming fear, the hurt of a lightning strike or the darkness?
Or do you see the beauty in the rain, thunder and lightning?
When I read this quote, I felt inspired, but I know there are times in my life that I wouldn’t have felt the same. Each of us go through trials and depending on what is happening around us, it can determine how we handle a storm that comes our way.
When life’s storms present themselves, it is important to view them for what they are and not get caught in a cycle of only seeing the bad or negative. This is not always easy to do, but it is an important skill to learn. [Yes, it can be learned]
What we go through in life, makes us who we are. We weather our storms and hopefully grow from them. Have you ever been grateful for a storm? Or maybe grateful for the lessons you learned during the storm? Maybe there was someone you met or maybe the storm brought your family closer together. If you look, in most cases, you can find a silver lining.
If you are currently weathering a storm in your life, to follow are a few things to remember that will help you survive.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE - If you open your heart to let God help you, he will put the right people in your life to help you through. It may be an existing relationship or someone new. He will provide the support you need.
DO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY - Take a little time for you. Do something that makes you happy. Taking a walk in nature, reading an inspirational book or blog, talk to a friend that lifts your spirit, or watch a movie that leaves you feeling good. Take a break from the storm.
SERENITY PRAYER - Breakdown the storm with the Serenity Prayer. Change what you can and turn the rest over to God. Don’t dwell or put effort into the things you have no control over. Do what you can and give the rest to God.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.
We can be the storm or we can handle it. Either way, we don’t have to do this alone, we can take a break to breathe and we should let God control the winds that need to change. You are strong enough to survive the storm, even when you can’t see it yourself.
Know you are loved. Know you are supported. Know you are a warrior. Know you are a beautiful human and one of God’s masterpieces. Know that you can grow with the storm.
Sending peace, love and joy to you my friend. Sam
