FAQs for INDIVIDUAL COACHING

Q: WHY DOES LIFE COACHING PRODUCE SUCH RAPID CHANGE?

Life coaching works for several reasons:
--- Synergy between the coach and client creates momentum and enthusiasm. Better goals are set — ones that naturally motivate the client. The client develops new skills, which lead to greater success.

--- Coaching provides a structure of support. Left to our own devices, most people start out with the best intentions and then hit a snag and either get derailed completely or delayed for a long time. An accredited Coach can help you quickly bust through snags and inevitable roadblocks in life so more is accomplished with less struggle and less effort in a remarkably short period of time.

--- Objectivity. Your coach is an objective, positive supporter. Not everyone is lucky enough to have such a friend or colleague to provide this. If you’ve been doing it solo, try seeing how much more you can accomplish with your own personal coach!

Q: WHAT IS THE APPROACH TO COACHING?

I believe you are the expert in your life. I believe you are whole; not broken. I believe you are resourceful and capable of far more than you imagine. I believe in your capacity to change.

My approach to coaching is an emergent, iterative, holistic program designed to initiate powerful conversations. These conversations are intended to inspire new thinking, perceptions, and behavior to improve performance, create directional clarity, achieve personal and professional goals, and enhance the quality of your life.

Why struggle on your own when you can get what you want out of life in a fraction of the time with the structure, support, and tools of a skilled coach?

Q: HOW LONG DOES THE COACHING PROCESS TAKE?

The time frame can vary greatly and depends on a wide range of factors: your goal(s), your commitment and openness to change, your capacity for introspection, your circumstances, how quickly and thoughtfully you complete homework assignments, and other unique factors. For clients new to coaching, ideally, I start with a 12-session program.

Although on average, most people find coaching more beneficial than they realized and stay on longer than they initially anticipated—typically 9 months to a year.

Q: WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?

What happens in our appointment stays in our appointment!

I fully understand the value of your trust, and I take every precaution to safeguard it. All information that is shared will remain confidential between coach and client.

Q: SHOULDN’T I BE ABLE TO REACH MY GOALS ON MY OWN?

Most of us have been taught that “hard work and doing it on your own” are the keys to finding life, success, money, or happiness. Most people believe they must sacrifice something to attain what they want. Some people sacrifice their health, their time to enjoy life, or their relationships. None of this is necessary. You can have it all, but maybe not all right this minute!

With coaching, you’ll find you don’t have to sacrifice anything to get what you want. You may need to change a few things, true, but clients typically find they have more time with their families and friends, more money, more opportunities, and are more successful at work or in their businesses when they work with a professionally trained coach.

No athlete would consider going to the Olympics without the support of a coach. The extra edge the coach provides makes all the difference. Why shouldn’t you have this same advantage in your own personal and professional life?

Q: HOW IS COACHING DIFFERENT FROM PSYCHOTHERAPY?

The differences between coaching and psychotherapy are:
• Coaches focus on the future. Therapists focus on the past.
• Coaches center their work around the belief that clients are healthy. Therapists utilize a framework that is based on pathology and illness.
• Coaches work with the conscious mind. Therapists work with the unconscious mind.
• Coaches’ work is often time-limited with specific desired behavioral outcomes. Therapists’ work is open-ended with “understanding” as the primary objective.
• Coaches work in person, as well as over the phone/zoom. Therapists usually work in person only.

There are similarities between coaching and psychotherapy as well. They are:
• Both are concerned with making concrete changes in your emotional state and life.
• Both work to understand the self-limiting beliefs or behavior caused by thoughts and emotions that you may or may not be aware of.
• Both practices help you grow, change, and master your emotions.

Q: WHERE WOULD I MEET WITH MY COACH?

To make coaching as convenient as possible for you, I offer several options. Coaching services can be conducted in person at my office (2680 E. Main St. Suite 308, Plainfield, Indiana 46168) or via zoom or phone for remote and busy clients.

Q: CAN I CHANGE THROUGH COACHING?

Yes! I’ve seen many clients change in powerful ways. And they’ve likely had ambitions, goals, concerns, and challenges that are similar to yours. Coaching can be the catalyst to profoundly shift the trajectory of your life, enabling you to change the quality of your life in ways you never dreamed.

Q: WHAT IS THE COACHING PROCESS LIKE?

I start each coaching appointment with a comprehensive interview. This allows me to develop a deep understanding of you, your life stories, and your underlying operating system in a short period of time. With this knowledge, I begin to help you think about your situation and your life in new ways.

I ask powerful questions, assign individualized homework, and often metrics to help you tap into your unique potential. You will begin to find clarity, change your mood states, and take powerful new actions in multiple areas of your life.

Q: WHAT IF I WANT TO END MY COACHING COMMITMENT?

You may choose to terminate work at any time, although it is recommended to attend at least four (4) appointments. With that said, the decision is yours. If you do not sense it is right for you, there is no need to waste time or money for you or your coach on appointments.

Q: HOW OFTEN WOULD I MEET WITH MY COACH?

I meet with clients once a week. Through years of experience, this frequency yields the greatest returns in terms of change. Meeting once a week offers time for reflection and application of learning between appointments, while maintaining the momentum of our work together.

Q: WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF COACHING?

The objective is to focus on your potential (your unrealized ability, capacity, or possibility) by leveraging your strengths, uncovering what’s in your way or stopping you from achieving, and targeting the areas you are most interested in addressing to help you reach your goals more effectively.
